Who We Are
SQUASH is an independent resource hub providing information on property guardianship, housing law, and alternative housing solutions in the UK.
We've been part of the UK housing landscape since 2011, evolving from a campaign organisation to a comprehensive information resource.
What We Do
Provide Information
We offer detailed, independent guides on:
- Property guardianship - how it works, companies, rights
- Housing law - Section 144 LASPO, squatters' rights, adverse possession
- Housing crisis - empty homes, affordability, alternatives
- Resources - reports, organisations, support services
Share Research
We publish and share research on housing issues, including our archive of reports from the original SQUASH campaign.
Connect People
We help people find the information and organisations they need to address housing challenges.
Our Values
- Independence: We're not affiliated with guardian companies or commercial interests
- Accuracy: We strive for factual, up-to-date information
- Accessibility: Our resources are free and openly available
- Housing as a right: We believe everyone deserves safe, secure, affordable housing
Our History
SQUASH began in 2011 as "Squatters' Action for Secure Homes" - a campaign against the criminalisation of residential squatting.
We campaigned against what became Section 144 LASPO, briefing MPs and Lords, publishing research, and advocating for housing rights.
After the law passed in 2012, we evolved to provide ongoing information and resources on housing issues.
